Studio 60

Years ago the Wang stumbled across a sitcom about sport anchors on ABC called Sports Night. Nothing special, wasn’t particularly funny. But it left a great impact. It was more of a comedy drama created by Aaron Sorkin. Whom wrote a few popular films of the late 90s like A few Good Men and The American President. Aaron brought a very odd 30 min of a comedy in the form of Sports show on a ESPN like network. The show was hard hitting and to the point. With great dialogs and awesome speeches. Every character had these great scenes where they would, how shall I say it, they would put the period in the scene. They would end a scene and the credits would come out, and u will be speechless for 2 min… Like this one:

Jeremy Goodwin: A FULL house. Dan already folded the six you needed, and I have the other one. You don't have a house of any sort, you don't even have a pup tent. You've got trip sevens, and I have a straight. I want you to trust me right now. I want you to say to yourself, yeah, I've dated a string of jerks in my life, they were stupid, they were mean to me, but maybe this one's different. Maybe I should take a chance and not adopt the break-up-with-him-before-he-breaks-my-heart strategy. I want you to remember that when I started liking you, I didn't stop liking tennis. And I want you to know that I don' t think there's a woman in the world that you need to be threatened by, no matter how glamorous you think she is. But mostly, I want you to trust me, just once, when I tell you, you have three sevens, and I have a straight.

Jeremy Goodwin was a god character on the show, and his late arrival plus his minor-esque role didn’t stop him from grabbing the fame to eventually ending up on West Wing. Sorkin’s second great TV show.

The winner of Many Emmies, West Wing was, of course a show about the President and his staff. The cool thing is that the show was about the his staff. Really it was about the ins and outs of running the nation from the rooms of the White House. And Sorkin nailed the show. The first season was some of the best stuff on TV. Of course he left in season 3, and so did the Wang. Not sure how the show is now, but West Wing had also had some of the best “period" ending speeches on TV. He also tied in political and social issues, Sorkin did embed some commentaries, but he does it in his usual, debate ending speeches. And with wit and intelligence, u let him get away with the podium.

So now years after his departure from West Wing, he’s back in full swing with his new upcoming show, Studio 60, a show about a Saturday Night Live- esque sketch comedy show that has lost its spirit. But the new members of the TV world wants to resurge the love for these old TV institutions so, with old ways aside, Studio 60 will begin a new era of TV, in which things are different. Studio 60 features some of the cool cast members from his past work like Bradley Whitford. Also with him is Matthew Perry, Amanda Peet, and Steve Webber. Who knows if Studio 60 will succeed, but definitely it will be as the promised a different TV show. And perhaps as the show within the show says, perhaps this show just must challenge the audiences.
