Movabletype 4.0 upgrade

So, the Wang's been busy trying to upgrade this sad lonely excuse of a blog. Ever since last week, a few minor details involving MySQL to Movabletype stupidities has  seriously intensified the Wang hatred of not just simply using blogger or some other hosted blog site. Still the Wang pushed through and eventually got to the point now where all the entries are nicely back. (Though the Wang can't seem to get the dynamic publishing bit of the new system to work... ) Still the blog works and looks prettier. Mean while the Wang will have to focus on hard hitting contents to bring the blog back to posting glory.

The Wang can never claim to be a good blogger but it is still nostalgic and nice to read some of the old posts. Even if it means nothing to u the gentle readers. But still personally, it is always cool to dig up an random archive and just go, "wow i remember that!"

Back to new system complaints...

So the because of the export/import tactic that the Wang finally used to get the Blog to work again, Comments r completely F**ked up from HaloScan. So they r not being used right now... which also means the Wang lost like 2 ish yrs of comments from HaloScan. Oh its still there, just not linked correctly to the correct entry. And due to the new numbering, I'll get comments for like the next 100 posts i put up, from posts from before. Talk about entry identity crisis. Still since the new MT4.0 system has a nice LJ authentication feature, and most of the Wang's friends use LJ, the Wang figure thats not a bad way to swing it... So i'm going to give the MT commen t system a try and see how it goes. Or more so, how well it holds up against spams. (the reason the Wang went with haloScan before was due to the massive Spaming that was happening with the MT comment from 3.0.

And just to leave u off with something prettier than just words... enjoy this hawt and simple photo of Naomi Watts:

Three things I can't live without

So CNet did this article under their Digital Living Section called "Three Things I Can't Live Without". Its an article on average people and the tech gadgets/gears that they, well , can't live without.

So I decided that I might not get a submission in, nor do I want to, I figure I’ll just do it on my own blog. I mean that’s the point of a personal web space right?

So here are my choices for the Top 3 tech gadgets that are essential to my life, in no particular order:

Treo 600

So this is what I called the GOD-emperor phone. In early 2000 I tried a Handspring phone attachment for my Handspring, and it sucked. It crashed, it crashed my handspring, and it had a terrible interface. Then Palm and Handspring got together and made the Treo line. The Treo 90 and Treo 300 got some nice reviews but they were only the road that paved its way for the Awesomeness that is the Treo 600.

I agree, the Pocket PC has more software and more multimedia features, but the Palm OS keeps coming back. With each newer Palm OS more multimedia features are added, the Palm OS definelty uses slower processors thus less battery drain. But enough about the Palm OS/Pocket PC debate, the Treo has everything. A camera, speakers, SD card slot. I can use my treo for everything, MP3, taking pictures, checking email, checking blogs via RSS feeds, posting on Blogs, get online, and with the right software, I can remote access my PCs. This phone does it all, and now, Palmone just introduce the Treo 650, with Bluetooth and external battery. Though there seems to be some memeory management issues with the new 650.

ReplayTV 4040

Yes, I know most people know PVR as TiVo. But I am always a fan of the underdog. Plus during the glory-days of ReaplyTV, ReplayTV had more features, its ability to share shows with other replayTVs online was one of the greatest features. I think TiVo has a better menu and a better theme recording feature. But my ReaplyTV has been good to me, and it will always be in my heart until the day it has a hard drive failure… plus the ability to hack in a bigger hard drive is tres cool. Though I find my self using the verb “TiVOed" since “ReplayTVed" just seem longer and doesn’t roll of the tongue as well.

iPod 15Gb

What more do one need to say about the iPod? Hard Drive based Mp3 players are the way to go. Storing thousands of songs is the way to go. I mean having half of you MP3 collection on one device. I my self asked why would u need that? U can just upload the songs u want to listen to. But then when u have a experience of meeting someone, and u can spend hours talking about all the music u have and giving a 2 hr. sample of the different types of music u have on ur iPod, its just cool. The trick with the iPod is management. U have to setup ur playlists, ur smart playlists, ur Genre and ur groups. Once u have all those down, the iPod is an entertainment machine that one cannot live without. And Apple just release their new iPod Photos. Good stuff but for $100 more then the non colored/photo version.

Sony Says OLED this year.

OLED, Organic Light Emiding-Diodes, another way to make ur basica LCD monitors, cheaper simpler to make, brighter and faster (only matter if u play FPS). Apprently SOny is going to start selling them. They are technically cheaper then LCD, but they been having life span issues so far, as tests show that OLED dont survive very long, speically used as a monitor. Not sure what is Sony's answer to this yet, but this article mentions Sony's desire to start selling them. So lets hope this tech is ready to roll, so we can all have our Matrix style multi flat panels with arms all over are work desk. Think Ikea-Techno.

Robots in the future.

Wired being a great source for reading, did an article on robots in parallel with their paper magazine. I think it has something to do with the craptacular "i' Robot" movie this summer, but Wired takes it into a more realistic level. This article gives the idea of what current technology in the field of robotics. And what possiable future these techs can comobine to form one day. A lot of is pretty amazing. TO thinking, with all this stuff that people are working on, like artifical muscle structure, AI, to synthetic skin. Pretty soon... we cna have real robots. Now will we need a Will Smith to protect us from them... thats a whoel other issue, but Wired does have an article on him also.

New Antenna Designs

Apprently NASA did some research and came up with a new antenna design. I honestly cant say i understadn the technology behind it, but its based on some sort of Algorithm:

Using a coevolutionary algorithm, we optimized the design parameters for a quadrifilar helical antenna by encoding various parameters that control the shape and size of the antenna into a linear representation.

all this with the top 3 benefits of, 1. Less power comsumption, 2. doesn't require a matching network (not sure what this means...), 3. Has a more uniformed coverage. Not to mention its easier to design, and has taken the idea of being used near building, which current day antenna tech. inst really designed for, building obstacles.

I love my Sprint

Well Sprint annouces that they will be making a move to the EV-DO tech, the true speed of 3G cell technology at the end of this year in selected markets. This will mean up to speeds of 2.4 Mbps, with an average download speeds of 300-500 Kbps, and an upload speed of 144 kbps.

So this article spectulate the use of the Treo series in Sprints advertisements. And questions the current cool deal of $10 unlimited internet use.

Apprently the fear of our satellite communication network going down in the event of nuclear happening in space. We need to sheild our satellites. Apprently this can be done now days. But since our communication network is baed on old a$$ satellites, we have to figure out a way to protect the old ones. Like saving all the old folks incase of a fire. So Darpa and NASA came up with this:

One idea is to use '"electrodynamic-static space tethers' that would remove highly charged radiation particles." And no, as Dave Barry would say, I am not making this up.

"The tethers would be carried by satellites in low Earth orbit and cut across magnetic field lines, inducing electromagnetic current that would dilute the nuclear radiation and push it away from satellites, a government official said.

All i can say is, have we seen The Day after Tomorrow or that "great" movie The Core? Werent all these catastrophies the result of some science experiment with the magnetic fields?? Well good to know that we are actually doing this stuff, and not just another case of Hollywood lying to us about Tech.

Info-MICAs

Well Japan is at it again. In the future wave of storage mediums, NTT has created the newest storage medium, the Info-MICAs. The current design model is about the size of a postage stamp and hodls 1 gig of info. How does this work? this is what i got. Apprently they encode holograms of patterns onto layers of thin-film. And it is a stack in layers. The benefit being, 1. no high-powered laser and spinning, 2. low power consumption, 3. Large data storage for cheap. 4. u can duplicate the content easily. and 5. u cannot copy it from home. This is the dream of RIAA i think, specially since they r trying everything to sue u.

So this thing can be produced for the cost of making CDs. Obivously this sint flash ROM< it isnt writeable so it wont replace SD of CF cards. So the concept is that it might replace CDs and DVDs one day, as it is working its way up to 10 Gb.

The good thing is this is close to what the Sci-Fi films always refer to as a data-cube. Data can be stored in massive layers of some sort of cyrstal (thin-film). And it can be read with a relatively low powered light that doesnt need to be "always-on" like CDs.

Smallest Fuel Cell

Supposely This is been in the news for awhile. Thse new methnol based fuel cells that can power devices up to 5 times more then... (i'm not sure what they were comparing to. I assume the mean the current Li-on cells). But anything to increase the playing time of my iPod is good news. I guess we just have to wait for the iPod 4 (fake photo of one
